Do you have the AMPS Rugged Mount but without the power cable (I know such a version was planned at some point last fall).

If I go with the power cable, what are the specs for the voltage that can be used. Like can I apply AC voltage or only DC. And what are the min and the max voltages. I do not have 12V DC available in my case.

The Garmin mount only comes with the cable. RAM makes a mount without the cable. It is better to get the one with the cable based on your question. The cradle will take the 12V from the vehicle and convert it to the 5V the unit needs. You can also get the power data cable for the unit. Here are some links.

So do I understand correctly that the only voltage input that can be used with the external power cable on the Montana is 12V DC ? No other voltages can be used (I searched the specs and did not find any info on this).

The input voltage required to power directly to the Montana's USB port or to the cradle connections is 5V DC.

The external power cable attached to the Garmin Montana 600 650 650t AMPS Rugged Mount requires 10 to 50 volts DC and is converted to 5V to power the Montana.

The powered cradle is the easiest method to mount and power the Montana.

They are the same in regards to being versatile. As per temperature they will both work the same in cold temperatures. the GPSMap 62S will read better in the sun but the Montana will have a larger easier to use touch screen. I prefer the Montana at this time
