I bought this GPS so I could use it when hiking. I was told that it was the easiest to use GPS for hiking because the maps are supposedly on it already, but I still can't figure out how to make it work.

When I am at a trailhead, how do I find the trail I am on? How do I get the destination I want to visit (a pond, a mountain, a trail intersection, etc,...) to appear on the map?

When I am on a trail in the woods, miles from my car after hiking all day, how can I tell how many miles it is to get back to my car by looking at the GPS?

If this unit can't do any of these things, I'm going to chuck it out the window.

1) Not all trails will be in the unit. Well established ones should be in there. When you are at a trail head you should see the trail on the map screen as a dashed line. It should also be labeled Trail.
2) Searching outdoor points. Rivers, lakes, and other outdoor POI will show up on the map and if they are properly named you can search them by using the 'Where to?' button in the main menu. Search under all Points or Geographic Point category.
3) You can use your track log to determine how far it will be back to the car. Make sure that you delete the old tracklog before starting your hike so you data is accurate.

** The unit will take some playing with to learn how to use all the features in it. Feel free to watch the many videos we have created to assist you. Just click on the video tab when you are on the Oregon page
