I want to use this unit for traversing treatment areas. The linework will need to be exported / saved as a .dxf format for processing in Arc GIS. Does the unit come with software that will enable this? If not, what software do I need, Garmin Mapsource or Basecamp....? Does mapsource come with Topo Western Canada? Thank You.

No you will need to buy software that can handle that GIS data and convert it to format Garmin can read. You can use a free program called CGPSMapper. It will take some time to learn. They include lots of tutorials on their site.

Hi Jordan,

I am not converting GIS Data for the Garmin to read, but rather Garmin data readable in Arc GIS. Does your answer still apply? CGPSMapper.

Thanks,

Jeff

If you are using the Garmin for Data collection you may need a converter, but that will depend on what formats your GIS software supports. You will be able to find that info in the documentation of your software

The best option I've found is using DNR Garmin (freeware) that you can use to take *.GPX files (waypoints & tracks) from the Garmin and convert to projected shapefiles that can be loaded into ArcGIS. The same program allows converting shapefiles into Garmin format if you wish to go from GIS to the Garmin with data.
