I run a mosquito control district. I want to be able to record the location of every storm drain in the district. I am wondering if the 550 would work well for such a thing? Basically i want permanent spots marked on the gps, so i can have a seasonal worker make sure they're hitting every storm drain? I am assuming i would have to buy the city maps for the oregon, but would these "waypoints" show up with enough accuracy on the city map?

The GPS will be within 2-3 meters accurate at best and should work for your application along with the City Navigator mapping.
Tall buildings may obstruct the GPS from acquiring a good satellite fix and will affect the accuracy.
The eTrex 20 or 30 may be a better option and this GPS has the ability to use the Glonass satellite system along with the North American GPS satellites which would give slightly better accuracy and less likely hood of loosing the satellite fix when under the cover of buildings and trees.
