Did i really just pay $500 for this GPS and now i have to go spend another $100 just to get a map for it or am i missing something here? Any help?

Mapping in handhelds is purchased separately in most cases. Some models like the rino 655T will have Topo maps. That is what the T stands for. We do not recommend buying maps preloaded in Handheld GPS units because they tend to be older than what you can get on DVD and can not be updated.
$500 seems very high for a rino 530 since it has been discontinued for a bit. I would suggest returning it for the rino 655 (non T) which will have more features and then get the maps on DVD
