I have a Garmin 62s and I'm looking for mapping software (for hiking) so I can plan a route in the software, then download the corresponding route+map onto the 62s.

I know that Garmin's MapSource software will do this, but heard that the Nat Geo TOPO! software is very good. Will Nat Geo TOPO! 4.x allow me to do the above? Thanks!

The map will not go into the unit unless they added the Garmin custom map feature to the software. If the National Geographic software outputs a GPX file then you can send routes and waypoints to the GPS. As far as I know they do output GPX in some software packages. (their site has limited information) I would suggest the Garmin software because you definitely can do what you want with ease.
