How do I download a DVD such as Midwest Fishing Guide to micro SD card so it will be recognized and work on the 650? I tried copying the DVD from PC to SD card directly and it did not work in the unit.

You will install the software to the computer like any other software. It will put to programs on your computer. Mapinstall and Basecamp. Mapinstall is what you use to put the maps on your GPS unit or SD card. When you update Basecamp a bunch of tutorial videos will show when you start the program again

Okay, so if I want to put this on an SD card using Mapinstall, do I use the PC's SD card slot to write or do I have to install the blank micro SD card into the Garmin 650 first then transfer the data from the DVD directly to the SD card via the Garmin's SD slot behind the battery? Sorry, first time user.

You can use the computers SD card slot or the unit.

Will CN North America copy from DVD to SD card or must you go to internal memory on the unit. Due to the 1 device only restriction?

It can go to either the internal memory or microSD card. Only the one unit will be able to read the maps. so if you move the microSD card to a different unit it will not work.

Thanks, Jordan for all your help. Basically what I have here is three DVDs and I'm trying to figure out the best way to configure the 650. CN North America, TOPO 24K Northeast, and Midwest Fishing Guide. Do you have any suggestions on which to load internally or externally(SD)? What would be most efficient? (best fit) I also have TOPO US 100K but I think I may return it. Your thoughts would be most appreciated.

You can load them all to the internal memory or SD card depending on how large of an area you choose. I suggest getting no larger than a 8Gb card for maps. Keep in mind the more maps you load the slower your unit will get. I also noticed that if you have to many image file the unit will not read them all properly at this time.

Instead of loading city navigator on the unit you would be better off getting a nuvi for a little more money. You can get life time map updates included and they work better for road navigation. You will also not need to worry about slowing the unit down too much because you will have less maps on the unit.

Once you factor in the cost of mounts, traffic, software, and map updates buying a nuvi is more economical in the long run for street navigation. Here is one suggestion.
