I am using Open Street Maps (OSM) on my device. If I create a route on my device, I can go to the route planner and select the option of reversing the route. However, if I create the route on my laptop and then transfer it to my device (again, using the OSM maps) I don't get the option of reversing the route as would be found in the route planner.

Is there a way to the reverse a route on the device after downloading it from my computer?

I checked our GPSMap 62S and the reverse route option is available with the Garmin Mapping when I select a route created on the unit. If I select a route that was created on a computer that option is not available. You may want to send a list of waypoints to your GPSMap 62 then use those points on the unit to create the route instead of the computer. Or like you mentioned reverse the route on the computer before sending to the unit.
