I'm confused as to why the higher end Garmin products such as the Montana and Oregon series don't seem to use the accuracy claims that the $100.00 Glo units lay claim to. Why are the GloNass sats. not available to the higher end devices and are the accuracy claims in fact (I hate saying this) that ACCURATE?

Garmin just started integrating GLONASS into their GPS devices. The eTex 10, 20 and 30 were the first handhelds to have the combined satellite systems. The Garmin Oregon series and Montana series are a little older than the new eTrex units. The GLO is the latest combo device. I am sure Garmin will be coming out with higher end handhelds with the combination satellite systems.

I have used all the Garmin Handhelds and I have noticed slightly better accuracy when using the eTrex and GLO. The added GLONASS satellites give you more satellites to track therefore a better satellite geometry. You will see a difference in hard to track areas like canyons where in the past you may not of been able to track enough GPS sats to get a good position. The GLONASS satellites fill in the gaps so you can get better accuracy in those areas.

At this time we don't have any information on any new units, or any new units with integrated GLONASS. As soon as we do, you can be sure they will be available on our website.
