Hello, I have a question about my new Dakota 20. I have loaded .gpx track files onto the GPS, with waypoints defined for each turn. I was told by someone at GPScity that doing so would give me the ability to have turn-by-turn routing with a beep provided for notification at each turn. However, when I run the track I do not receive any routing information. I can see the waypoints on the display (tiny, of course) and I can see them on the waypoint list, but I do not receive anything to assist with turns in the track -- no arrows, no beeps. All I see is my progress along the route. Is this the way that the Dakota 20 is supposed to work, or am I doing something wrong? Here is a copy of the format I am using to define the waypoints:

167.00000
Turn L onto Tater Ln
Left
Left

Is there perhaps a problem with my format? I really appreciate your help!

Tracks do not provide routing information. You need to turn the track into a route in order for the GPS to guide you. A track is where you have been. route is where you are going.

You can turn a track to a route on the computer using Garmin Basecamp.

Hi Jordan -- Thanks so much for your assistance. With your input, my Dakota 20 is now working beautifully with my routes. I do have one question: When my waypoint information is displayed, it is always followed by the words "on right" or "on left." For example, if the instruction is Turn R onto Putney Rd, the display says "Turn R onto Putney Rd on left." Do you know why this is? Is there any way to stop that from happening? Thanks!

That sounds like a bug. Are you seeing the problem on the unit or in Basecamp. Have you done all updates to both your GPS unit and Basecamp?

I will take a look to see if I can recreate the problem. If I can I will let Garmin know and it will be fixed in a future update. In the mean time try doing updates to both the unit and software

Hi Jordan -- I am seeing the problem in the unit. Though I did update the unit software immediately after receiving it, I checked today and there was a software update available. I will try it again to see if this update addresses the issue. I'll let you know. Thanks again!
