Original question asked on Dec 29, 2012, 11:02pm
I just ordered the Montana 650t and I'm going to use it while trail riding with my ATV in Mexico. I was looking all over the place but I could not find any trail/topo maps for Mexico (I'm in Guanajuato). I was wondering if anyone here could steer me in the right direction. I assume the pre-loaded topo-map cut's out at the border? Thank you so much in advance. Alex

I have not seen any mexican outdoor mapping. Have you tried checking out OSM. They have topo maps for Mexico. Just Google 'OSM Garmin'

Thanks Jordan, as you said, I just googled OSM Garmin and I found some maps for Mexico. I will download them and hopefully will be able to load them onto the Montana.

Hello Jordan,

I could not find OSM trail maps for my area in Mexico, so I started creating one using JOSM. I used Ping satelite images as source. My questions now is, can I upload ping satelite maps with the OSM overlay onto the Garmin Montana? That would be sweet.

Thanks
Alex

I checked the OSM map and it seems like they have your area covered. (I could be looking in the wrong area) In the top right hand corner of the map screen you will see three sheets of paper (layers). Be sure to select Cycle map. That will show contours and other information. Then zoom into your area again.

It is best to contact the OSM people for assistance using their product. I have not used that feature of their software so I am unsure what formats it is in and how to load them.

If the maps are able to be loaded using Garmin custom maps then you can find hundreds of video tutorials online.
