Does the backlight have to be on at all times to see the screen? Regardless of page viewed, unless the back light is adjusted to at least half-way the screen is too dark to see. OR is there a setting I can go to?

Thanks

That would be correct. You will want to adjust the screen brightness if you are having troubles reading the screen. You may want to turn the screen time out off. Setup-> Display->Backlight Time out-> Stay on

There is a wiki on the 62s where it tells u how to optimize the screens to help with making the maps clearer. I use my 62s with the back light completely off outdoors - that way it lasts many many hours. It's not realistic to to have the backlight on in an outdoor situation.

The GPSMAP 62S can be used without the back light but is harder to see than with the back light on.
