I am trying to decide between these two units. Which would you choose? What justifies an extra $30 for the Oregon 450? thanks.

The Oregon would be the better way to go

- larger screen
- more customizable screens
- High Speed USB
- 2000 waypoints (dakota has 1000)
- 200 routes (dakota 50)
- photo navigation
- Outdoor games (Wherigo)

The Dakota's smaller form factor is for people who do long back country trips and want to watch the weight of their gear. GPS City, for the few extra dollars, recommends the Oregon 450 over the Dakota series.

Cheers

I'm wondering about this q as well. I'll be mainly using it for hunting and geocashing, and I'm wondering if the dakota is the better way to go. The longer battery life is a big plus for long trecks, plus the smaller size. Do you find you use the picture viewer enough to warrant the extra money for geocashing? An 80$ difference seems a bit much for that. Comments?
Thanks in advance :)

Nathan,

Most people choose the Oregon because of the extra features and larger screen. As for the battery life the unit uses AA batteries so you can always carry a few extra with you for long treks.

thanks for the reply :)

I'm still a bit up in the air between the two though, If I order one and want to switch, is that an option?

Hello Nathan,

We have a 30 day return policy. If you are in the Calgary area you should drop by our store where you can play with the Oregon and Dakota to get a feel for which one is better for you.

Hello Ed,
No it will not tell you who owns the land. If you have your own mapping that has that info you can use the various Garmin POI and map features to add the custom data to your unit.

Cheers
