I have used an eTrex Vista for years but it has finally worn out. I need the new one to be able to plot waypoints while I am in the woods (which I am sure the Etrex 20 does) but I then need to download and display these waypoints on my Topo maps on my PC. The old vista used com ports etc...how or does the 20 accomplish this ?

All new units will communicate via USB. Garmin Basecamp is the software now used to manage your data
