I just purchased a Garmin series earbud with PTT.
The PTT does not work.
I've tried all the settings within the radio options on the Garmin, and no go.
When I push the PTT button on the earbud, it does not activate the radio.
Thoughts...

In the radio settings have you chosen the mic option with PTT?

Yup...
There are four options:
Ask When Deteced ... tried ... nada
Lapel Microphone ... tried and failed
Boom Mic Using Vox ... didn't try
and Boom Mic Using PTT ... tried and no go.
... your thoughts.

You may have a defective headset for Garmin lists the PTT earbuds as compatible.

You will want to give Garmin a quick call for tech support at 1-800-800-1020. They may know something we are not aware of.

Also be sure that your unit is up to date using the free Garmin software WebUpdater.

like to know if anything came of this question. I have 2 rinos & purchased a setup to use them on my motorbike. One unit recognised the headset & PTT button no problem. With the other unit the headphone works but not the PTT button. Tried on a mates rino & the PTT didn't work on his either. Is there some setting hidden away somewhere I can't find?

Check the settings in your rino GPS unit to make sure they are the same. You need to choose the mic option for PTT.

Thanks Jordan
The unit that works was on "detect headphone..." & decided to use lapel mike & I had to select it with PTT button when asked. The two units that don't work were on " detect headphone...." & don't detect. Tried both on lapel mike but units didn't ask if there was a PTT button & tried them on mic with PTT & neither made any difference - headphone part works but PTT on the headset doesn't. There are quite a few sites with this problem on the internet but this one looked worth a try for an answer, the others don't seem to go anywhere. Garmin in Australia are not particularly satisfactory to deal with.
Units have had the latest software upgrade
Thanks again for the reply,
Peter

Interesting. I assume these are Garmin headsets. Have you went through the radio setups and make sure all units have identical settings to the one that works? Not just the headset settings.

Have you tried emailing Garmin in North America?

Hi Jordan,
Thanks again for reply. 2 days ago it started recognising the headset PTT intermittently but won't do it again. Checked the settings between the 2 units & can't find any real difference. There are some slight differences even though they both are running the same updated software. The headset is not a garmin headset as they are not suitable for motorcycle use. It is a professionally made one with starcom components & it does work on the other unit no problem. It does seem as though the socket does not function correctly & if this is the case & my mates has the same problem you wold expect some type of recall from garmin.
I'll do as you suggest & email garmin & let you know
Thanks,
Peter

I would suggest trying the Garmin PTT headset before returning. I do not have access to third party headsets to test. I do not know if there is a problem with the Garmin device. I would suggest that you maybe give them a call to see what they say about the compatibility between your headset and their units.

I had come to the same conclusion about the garmin headset after my last post. But the headset I have does work on one of the rino's?? Going away for 5 days so contacting Garmin will have to wait till I get back. I was hoping Greg Baschak might have gotten back to you. Thanks again.
