Is there a size limit to the MicroSD card capacity on these? I guess what I am wondering is if the 62s is compatible with MicroSDHC (High capacity) cards like the 8 and 16 gig?

Hello Corey,

The limit is the map size. Garmin only allows you to compile a 4Gb map. So anything larger than 4Gb can be a waste. An 8 Gb will work but you can only load 4Gb of map data.

*** The unit can do a 32GB card but 8GB is recommended

Even if you have multiple 4Gb maps?

You will only be able to load one map onto the card because they overwrite themselves.

What about a 4Gb map + birdseye data?

Hello Qmanchego,

Birds eye are separate files so it should work fine. Putting a 8Gb card in the unit will work but even with birdseye its going to be very hard to fill it.

SanDisk 4GB and 8GB cards both work in my new 62s, but the 16GB does NOT... It is very disappointing the user has to figure this out. Kills me to spend >8 hours because of Garmin's terrible documentation.

On the sd card you can rename the /garmin/gmapsupp.img to almost any name you want.

I have 6 on mine right now.

Also you may want to update the unit software if a 16gb card does not work. My 16 gb card works perfect.

The type of card will also affect whether it works or not.

Dave, what class of card and brand is your 16GB card? Some classes may not work, while others do.

8 hours. feel lucky, I'm going on 12 hours here. 5 customer support call and the purchase of multiple cards (8Gb HC, 4GB HC (as customer supports suggestion, a 1Gb plain card) none of them are recognised by the unit. .kmz maps load fine to cards but they don't show up on screen (to enable or view).

Hey Sucker,

If you are loading custom maps to the Garmin via KMZ you need to make sure the tile size is no more than 1024 by 1024 px and in JPG format. Also make sure the zoom levels are properly set.

Also double check the data is in the correct custom map folder. You can try the internal memory to eliminate it as a card issue.

The first time I did a custom map it took a couple tries. Its not as easy as hoped.

Do the maps show up in the units settings when you check what detailed maps are loaded?

I hope these pointers help you.

Cheers

The max size we recommend is 8Gb. The max size we were able to use in the unit was 8Gb. The max Garmin map you can make is 4Gb via Topo Canada you can use the rest of the 8Gb card plus the internal memory for custom maps, birds eye and GPX file.

The ones we have tested are Class 4. A higher class should work fine
