› Garmin Oregon 550t with Camera and US Topo

I bought the Garmin 550T which has the US topographical information already built in. I then purchased the Canadian Topo software, which I really like. I can import my GPX data from my Garmin unit and show it on a map on the computer screen. From there, I can create screen shots in different resolutions to show others where I biked etc. I find the Canadian Topo software very useful--both in terms of having it in the Garmin 550T and my PC.

I doubt I can do the same if I were to bike in the US because I don't have the computer US Topo software. Is there a way, without having to purchase a separate US Topo package, that I can enjoy the same functionality on my PC with my US data as I can with my Canadian Topo Software?

In other words, with my Canadian Topo package, I have the Garmin and PC benefit. With my 550T, I have US Garmin benefit but no PC benefit. That is, I can't export my bike route from Carlsbad CA and have it show up on my PC screen?

I hope my question makes sense.

Hello
The software basecamp that comes with the Topo software will use data collected from anywhere in the world. You just wont have a detailed topo map underneath the data you collected. You will see a blank map or basemap with some highway info. If you would like the topo maps for the USA so you can see your data on a map you can purchase those from us.

I use the SRTM topo data and Open Street Map. It took a bit of playing around to get it generating nice topo maps (Using the programs mkgmap and srtm2osm), but it's not too hard. There are plenty of people working on it so hopefully it won't be long before you can just download ready made maps updated daily or weekly and completely free.
