Hello Loginman,

The accuracy of recreational GPS has not changed from 3 meters 95% of the time with WAAS corrections. however the sensitivity of the receivers has improved so you can receive signals better in hard to track areas. Such as thick tree canopies or down town areas. This was improved in the GPSMap 60CSx and 60Cx series. The GPSmap 62S has pretty much the same sensitivity as those models. Maybe a little better. The main gain with the new 62S series is the tri-axis compass, wireless sensors and the new map capabilities to name a few.

You now can add satellite imagery or custom maps to the GPS unit. The wireless sensors are for training. You can hook up a Garmin Heart Rate or Cadence sensor.

I hope this helps. Feel free to watch our videos on the 62S to learn more about it.

Apparently, the 62S is not more accurate but it gets a faster satellite fix. Also, pages display faster.

Cheers,

Andy

I am ready to purchase my first gps and I am wondering should I buy the mapcsx60 or spend the extra money for the mapcsx62s? I am not a sophisticated tech user but want a gps primarity for hiking and kayaking in California, Oregon and Nevada. Will appreciate replys.

The 60CSX is discontinued now. The 62S replaces it and has updated features. The 62S can do custom maps, satellite maps, and the Garmin maps. It is also wireless for sharing data with other units and can be used as a fitness device in conjunction with the Garmin Heart rate sensor. The reception is pretty much the same between the 60CSX and 62S. The 62S has a much better compass in it also.

Cheers
Jordan
