I have a few questions with my new 450T
1. Why would one want Basemap vs Mapsource?
2. I am looking at getting the 24K Southeast Topo Map. Why would I want the DVD vs SD card? Will this provide the names of all named streams, etc?
3. Why is my Basemap menu options shaded out and not usable? I have been unable to edit or add anything to my 100K map installed on the 450T.

Hello Kevshell,

1. Basecamp is a much better software than mapsource. It manages you data better. Also mapsource will most likely not be available soon.
2. DVD can be used on the PC/Mac and your GPS unit. The SD card can be only viewed in the unit.
3. Not sure why you have having issues. Have you updated Basecamp. Did you buy it with mapping? What menu is shaded out. What are you trying to do. You may want to call for technical assistance. 1-800-800-1020. Also check out some our videos. They may help you.

Cheers

Thanks for the info.
As for Basecamp, I just got access to the "add a waypoint" but all the menu options except "Find" under "Edit" are not available. I just downloaded this to my computer from Garmin this weekend.
So, if I read you comment regarding the DVD vs Micro/SD, I would be better served with the DVD if I wanted to plan routes, add waypoints, etc on my computer?

Thanks in advance

Hello Kevshell,

DVD is the way to go unless you don't have a computer. Are you using maps with Basecamp? If no that is most likely why some of your menu's are grey. The software in that case would not have a database to search.

cheers
Jordan

Would I have that problem with Basecamp if I were working from the 100K map on the unit? If so, thats my problem.

Hello Kevshell,

If the maps are preloaded on the unit, yes you will have problems. You need the maps on DVD to get the full functionality on the PC. Maps on the unit can not be transferred to the computer.

So are you saying I cannot plan and modify my tracks and routes on basecamp for the topos that come on the unit? If that is the case then is it not best to buy the 450 and buy separate us topo maps so I can see and manage them from my computer?

Hi Dean - Yes, we recommend buying the unit and topo maps separately for that very reason. Let us know if we can help with anything else!
