I am considering purchasing one of these, but I read on a CNET review that this GPS will not work with DNR Garmin. Does anyone know if this is true?

Also, other owners have reported that this unit squeaks when pressing buttons. Is this still an issue?

Hello Reid,

The unit squeaking is not an issue. The squeak has not been fixed. It only happens when you squeeze the unit to turn it on.

By the looks of it Garmin DNR (Minnesota DNR) has not been updated since 2008. I am sure if the makers of DNR update the software it will work with the 62S.

I recently purchased a gps map 62 and am sad to say that I can use dnr garmin to download waypoints but not upload them...in fact I am having trouble uploading to this unit in general...it does not seem to recognize gpx waypoints taken by my older unit...very dissappointing.

Hello Danieil,

The unit has no problems uploading. Make sure you are using the correct programs. The 62S prefers Garmin Basecamp. You can buy it with Topo maps or download just the shell from Garmin for free. Also make sure your units firmware is kept up to date and you should not have issues.

DNR Garmin works ok with the 60sx but i can't get it to take data from my 62s. Nor does Garfile work with the 62s, but it is good for the 60sx.

I recently heard that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will no longer be supporting DNR Garmin - for Arc 10 anyway. Besides, http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/shutdown.html

The unit will up load with DNRGarmin. You need to "Save to File" and save it to the Garmin/GPX/folder in GPX format.

I use DNR Garmin with my GPSmap 62s on a daily basis. I have not had a problem getting waypoints to upload to the unit, but can not get files to download from my unit to DNR Garmin.
