I got the US TOPO 100 mapping loaded on my 4 Gig. Took much longer than I thought it would (more than 16 hours). Is slow to load the maps, but seems to work Okay. What I would like to do is load the complete 100K maps on my card and load a portion (in my home area)on the unit. This way when I am local it won't take as long to load the maps. Unit only reconizes basemap and TOPO map once. Is there a way & can rename either the TOPO US map on the unit or the card and both will be read to switch to?

Hello Keeter,

There is no easy way to do what you want. It is recommended only load the area's you need into the Dakota as you need them for ease of use.

Cheers

Here is a work-around that seems to work. I loaded the maps, by state on the card, had to do them separately, but took far less time than loading whole country. I then added another character to the end of the imp extensions. Then when I want the maps to be read by the unit, all I have to do is remove the character and the unit reads the imp file. Downside, I can't do it through the unit, since have to do it on computer. This way my card holds all maps and I can get on computer and activate which ever ones I will be needing without having to wait for dowloading to card. So far, the testing seems to work. Sure wished the base map was better, I purchased a Magellen Explorist GC at same time and the base map provided with it has much more detail, down to lakes, streams, and local roads.
