I have just purchased a 62ST. This is my first GPS unit and I find the User Manual to be very spartin with limited information. The User Manual states (page 30): "Note: Do not change the position format or map datum coordinate system unless you are using a map or chart that specifies a different position format." Unfortunately, the manual does not give required position format or map datum coordinate system required. I may have inadvertently changed the settings during initial set up and need to know I have the correct info programmed into the GPS unit. Thanks, Jules

Do not worry because the unit will position you on the map screen correctly. If you want to set it back to defaults you can reset the unit or Change the Datum to WGS-84 and the Coordinate system to lat/long. That is the standard used in most units.

WGS-84 - Thanks. I had it set for NAD27 Canada thinking this was the most appropriate for Vancouver Island.

You will want to use NAD27 if you are using a paper government NTS map. If you use paper maps the Datum and coordinate system will be labeled in the one corner.

I wish to purchase the 62st.It will be my first GPS,my question is aparrently the user manual is not beginner friendly, can you advise if the purchase of ExpertGPS Pro or home software would be of value here in Canada. It has many interesting features. There is a free trial @ ExpertGPS.COM.Is it possable you could look at this software and advise on which functions will work with the Canadian 62st.I'm a little nervous on getting the 62st as I have no experience in this field.I'm wishing to mark trails and boundries on a 100 Acre forest lot, using example ( NAD83 zone 18,287308mE, 4968771mN )I also wish to use mills verses degrees for directional locating.Hope this isn't to confusing in it's contex. Please advise via email. clayg@sympatico.ca

Thanks in advance
Clay

Unfortunately we can't run the Expert GPS software on our computers because of compatibility.

1) We do not recommend buying the GPSMap 62ST. It is better to purchase the GPSMap 62S and the Topo maps seperatley on DVD. The cost is almost the same as buying it preloaded.

2) If you get maps on DVD you will have MAC/Windows compatible software with similar features to Expert GPS. You can plot acreages, trails, points and more.
