I have had my eTrex Venture HC for 2 years now. It's an excellent system but lately I am unable to turn it on. The screen powers up briefly but cuts out after 5 - 10 seconds.
I have checked it with new and old batteries, no improvement.I have been careful to use standard batteries in the past
The terminals are clean and the polarity corect.
The unit has not been dropped or submerged.
Are you able to help please.

Hello Kai,

First try a RESET. To do this hold the joystick in, then hold the page button at the same time. When holding the joystick in, make sure you push it straight down and not to any direction. Turn your GPS unit on while holding these buttons. If it works, it should show you a prompt asking you to erase all user data. Select "Yes".

If you have a USB cable I would also try the Venture with your PC. When hooked up to your PC it should go into PC mode. If it stays in PC mode then try to backup all your data and do a firmware update. Download Garmin BaseCamp for free from www.garmin.com . Basecamp can be used to backup your data if you don't have a program to do so. You will also need WebUpdater. Doing a Firmware update with Webupdater will reset your unit and put new firmware in. If your unit already has the latest firmware, load it again. I hope you get your unit working. If the above does not work you will need to send it in for repair. I would contact Garmin first @ 1.800.800.1020

I have a Garmin Etrex Venture HC and I seem to not be able to power on the unit. I tried to press all the buttons but no response. To be clear, press and hold the joystick down or press it and secondly hold the "x" and "lightbulb" buttons down at the same time.

Yes, the "X" button is the "Page" button and the "Ligthbulb" button is the "Power" button. So following the first response in the this thread, press the joystick in, and while doing this press and hold the Page and Power buttons.
