Hi Christine,

No there is no sim card or anything that has to come with the GPS. It works straight out of the box.

The Rino 520 does have a slot for a sim card. This card is need to store waypoints, tracks, more detailed maps, etc. Is the card special for the Rino or can any sim card be used? Regards.

The Rino does not use a sim card, a sim card is what is used for cell phones for activation, etc.

The Rino however, does have a slot for a microSD memory card for additional mapping and memory. Any microSD card can be used, but we recommend not to go over 2GB in size as this works the best in the Rino.
