Recently purchased the GPSMAP 62S from you and am in the southwest trying to navigate my way to waypoints i set up back home. The mapset I'm using is US Topo (from mapsource disks bought less than four years ago). The error i keep getting is this:
route calculation error. maps do not have routable roads to this area.
WTF? I had no problems with my 60csx and am regretting buying the upgrade as i don't dare try navigating these dirt roads without proper navigation. Any suggestions on a remedy to this before i throw it out the window and drive over it? Garmin has not responded to my repeated requests for solutions and as you can imagine I'm extremely frustrated. Just as a side not do you know why Garmin does not have a user manual telling you how to use the unit properly - as an example how to remove geocaches from your unit?

Hello Gram,

The older US topo mapping can not do auto routing. Ones purchase in the last couple years can. Do you know what version you have? Also when routing on your 60CSx did you have other maps loaded like City Select, metroguide or City Navigator. Topo Canada was always routeable, maybe you were using it for routing in the 60CSx based on your location.

Cheers

Have a GPSmap62s I purchased form you a couple weeks ago. What do you recommend for addition map info or topo map. I use it mostly for off road motorcycle riding and would like it to show roads, trails, canyons, creeks, etc. I also need to use it on my computer to view and save waypoints, track and routes. I use a laptop with windows 7.

Hello Terry,

The best map for your area would be the 1:24K topo map.

Go to map setup on your unit and then go to "select map" and then disable all maps except the one you are playing with. it won't give you "Route calculation Error" anymore. Then, enable the rest of the maps one by one until you find the culprit who causes the "route Calculation Error". Nothing wrong with that map, but, just put a note to remember that if you want to have a routable City Navigator, then, that particular map has to be disabled. That conflict exists not only on the "62" models, but, on the etrex models as well.
