Advertising lit for this unit suggests that it can be used for kayaking however i do not see any means of attaching a lanyard to secure it to the boat. Is there a means to attach a lanyard or has Garmin suggested how it might be secured when used on a kayak.

Looks like the mounts are very limited at this time. Will mount for bicycle be offered.

Hello alex,

The unit has a lanyard attachment at the bottom of the unit. Please watch the Hardware overview video. You can see it at about 2:04 min into the video.

The mount for the bike will be a combination of the Garmin holder and the RAM-Mount handle bar mount.

Cheers
Jordan

Hello Alex,

You can find some of the mounting options on the accessory pages. Here are some links for you.

The Holder

Mount option

Right now only the powered holder is available but you can always cut the cable off if you never plan to power it using that cradle. Not sure when or if a non-powered mount will be available.

Cheers

I used 550 paracord and made a quick and easy lanyard. Issue is that it can’t be removed easily. There is a thin opening on the bottom of the unit that you can thread a 1/8 inch or smaller cord thru. I wish they would have used the Oregon mounts or something similar.

I called RAM Mounts about getting a dedicated RAM mount holder for the Montana and they said it is not available now but will be in a couple of months.

I bought the AMPS Rugged mount to use on my kayak and Bike. I will use the internal batteries to power the GPS so can I cut the cables off on the Rugged mount? What about the metal contacts on the mount will the Montana want to power up from them even though there is no power to them ?

Hi Laura,
You can actually remove the metal contacts along with the wires, by unscrewing the 2 small screws on the bottom of the Rugged mount cradle.
Thanks!

Could you thread a metal key ring on the bottom where the lanyard would attach. Then loop the lanyard through the key ring.
