Just bought the 650t. I want to purchase the more detailed 24K TOPO maps and was wondering if there is some advantage to buying the CD and then loading onto the Micro SD cards vs buying the Micro SD cards with the maps preinstalled. Also, is there a size limitation with regard to the cards with respect to what the unit is capable of reading?

Hello Greg,

The Garmin unit will not be able to read a map file larger than 4Gb. I always recommend buying the dc/DVD so that you can load multiple cards just in case you have multiple Garmin units.

Cheers

I have the earlier Garmin MapSource Topo maps, 1:100,000 scale on a CD-Rom. I own both the United States Topo CD set, and the MapSource Topo Canada CD set ,version 2.0. (part # 010-10469-00)

If I have my own micro SD card (4gb) can I upload my Map Source Topos to this Garmin Montana 650t?

thanks

how do you load the maps onto the SD card from the CD to be used on the Montana 650. My unit has an 8 GB card but the unit seems to be loading it to the memory in the unit itself. I do not see an option for loading onto SD card versus internal memory.

All you need to do is use Garmin Map Install. Select the maps you want then hit send to device. If you continue to have trouble loading the map please call for support 1-800-800-1020

you will need to use Garmin MapInstall to install the maps on a microSD card to put in your GPS unit
