I'm debating beween buying the 60csx and the oregon 450. I'm interested in accuracy in a gps and am wondering if the 450 is comparable to the 60 csx in accuracy . Also does anyone know yet whether there is any significant improvement in the visibility of the screen on the 450 compared to earlier oregon units.

Any recommendations on which of these units I should go with would be appreciated. By the way the difference in price is not an issue as I want to get the better of these two units.

Thanks for any help/recommendations anyone may have on this issue.

Hello guy_cycle!!

When it comes to accuracy they are very similar. I notice the 60CSX is a little better but the Oregon 450 will not let yo down. I guess the big question is your use.

The Oregon series has a little more support for it. Garmin has been adding new features lately. They have added the ability for custom maps and soon a subscription to satellite imagery for your Oregon Series GPS. It also has the ability to act as a fitness device when combined with the Garmin heart rate sensor and cadence sensor for your bike. The touch screen makes data entry easy compared to the GPSMap 60csx. It also has 3D mapping capabilities and more.

I have not tested the sunlight readability of the unit yet. I found the Oregon 300 easy to read in the sun but at the wrong angle it does reflect the sun into your face. Adjust the angle and your good.

I do like the GPSMap 60 series very much and it is a reliable GPS that wont let you down. Right now the Oregon 450 or 550 would be my choice.

Happy Trails!

Jordan,

I live in Eastern Canada where the weather in the winter is quite harsh to say the least. I hike and cross-country is conditions where you usually are wearing heavy winter gloves or mitts and where it's frequently snowing when I'm doing those activities. Because of these conditions, would the 60 csx be easier to use with gloves on then would the oregon 450 ? Also with snow getting on the screen, would it not be better to have the push button conrols on the 60csx rather then the touchscreen of the 450 ? What do you think.

thanks

Hello Guy_Cycle,
The Icons on the Oregon 450 are large but the keyboard gets small. The buttons on the 60csx are very small. I would give the slight edge to the GPSMap 60CSx for use with gloves.

Cheers
Jordan
