City Navigator nt DVD 2012 will not unlock? , Edvin, Waikoloa Hello, I bought a DVD CN North America one week ago, but it will not unlock. After mcuh trying it did unlock and i could transfer maps to my NUVI. But two days later it was locked again, and i am not able to unlock it. It says successfully unlocked on the MYGARMIN when i try with using the 25 letter code, but it is still locked in MAPSOURCE. It comes up with UNAUTHORIZED, and will not unlock. Can you help with this problem?

You should also have a program called MapInstall on your computer. That is the program you should be using to transfer the maps. If you continue to have issues here is the tech support phone number 1-800-800-1020

How do i know if i have that program, and where do i get it if i don`t have it? I have several other maps included North America
version 2008, that transfrers without problems. Is this maybe something new for this 2012 version?

It will be in your programs (Start Menu) list most likely in a folder called Garmin. If you don't have it you can try downloading it from Garmin for free.

I found MAPINSTALL and installed it. The map unlocked for one transfer after that it went to locked again and i am not able to unlock it again. Do i have to run the Install process for the MAPINSTALL program each time i want to transfer maps?

That should not happen. Please call Garmin tech support for further assistance. They have the ability to rectify the issue you are having. 1-800-800-1020 (do not email them, youll get better support if you call) Please note that the software is only good for one unit but you should be able to put the maps on that unit as many times as you want. If you try putting it on a second unit you will get an error like "Cant unlock maps"

It is the same unit iam am using all time. I tried to install
the MAPINSTALL again and then the map unlocked. No i am transferring almost all of USA to my gps, so i don`t know
if it locks again when i am finished. At least i will have the
map on the gps. If the problem is still there after transferring,
i will call Garmin. Thanks for help

After transferring the map locked again, i will try to call Garmin.
Have you had any problems like this earlier?
According Garmins FAQ this problems my be caused by an unauthorized DVD, but i suppose you don`t sell false DVDs. You are a authorized Garmin dealer according Garmins homepage.

You are 100% ok buying a product from us. We only sell legit Garmin products. When you talk to Garmin they will mention we are one of their Top dealers.

Hi. Answer #2 concerns me. I have MapSource 6.15.7, not MapInstall. Can I not use MapSource as I can with my other maps?
I don't want to buy this product if I have to install anything other than the map product. No MapSource update, no MapInstall, certainly no firmware upgrade (60CSx 4.20). After the Colorado debacle I'm allergic to software from Garmin, but I can tolerate a simple map installer.
Thanks.

My map is still not ok, was on the phone with Garmin for more than one hour, without solving the problem. I give up, have to download maploader again every time i want to traansfer maps, after new download it works for one traqnsfer and locks again.

That doesnt sound right. I have not heard of this issue from others yet. Keep an eye out for updates to Mapinstall.

Can I not use MapSource?
Mapsource is not working for this DVD on my computer, has to download Mapinstall every time. Mapsource works ok for my other maps. I understand Garmin is afraid of unauthorized copies of the DVD`s, but when it get so complicated that honest byers not are able to use it, it has gone to far. So next time i will buy another GPS, have had 5 different Garmins before.

Mapsource is no longer the default for loading maps. The correct program to use for new mapping is MapInstall. If you have older maps you can still use Mapsource.

Edvin,
Did Garmin support folks suggest uninstalling all their software (including Registry entries), then reboot and reinstall their software. Sometimes, registry entries get screwed up and a delete/reinstall will clear up the issues. Check with them about this suggestion first.
