The SD card is best if you'll be using the maps in more than one GPS unit as they are not locked, the DVD maps are locked to one unit.
The DVD version is great for preplanning, as you can view all the detail on the computer mapping out trails and points of interest, then loading them into the GPS along with the map detail.

Can you load the SD card on to a computer (using an SD card reader) to map out routes and POI's as you can with the DVD version?

Also, when was the current version released?

Thanks.

The current version of City Navigator North America on micro/SD card was released within the last month. To view the information from the card on a computer, plug your GPS into the computer with the card inserted. You can preplan routes and waypoints using Garmin's free software BaseCamp, which can be downloaded from garmin.com.

If I get the DVD then can I get up dates?
With the DVD do I load an SD card with City Navigator, or how do I get City Navigator onto my Montana GPS?

If you buy the DVD you will be able to buy the numaps lifetime update subscription to keep them up to date. You get one free update within 90 days of the purchase. After the first update is when you will need the numaps update subscription. The one draw back to the DVD is that it is locked to the one unit and can not be used in other Garmin devices you may own.
