I have an Etrex 20. It does not come with any maps. I do a lot of motorcycle touring and do not want to spend the extra money for a Zumo. So, all these maps take up more memory than is provided in the GPS itself. Can you, once the DVD is unlocked, save the map data onto an SD card? From what I gather, the DVD is update-able, however the SD version is not. My ultimate goal is to have a nice, small, compact durable GPS with a wide assortment of roads throughout North America that is easy to use and able to be updated every so often. Please let me know if this is a decent route to go. Thanks

You can load the maps to a SD card for the Etrex 20. The maps can not be used on another unit unfortunately. The Etrex 20 is an ok way to go. Personally I would go with a Montana

Hi Jordan, You have answered a few of my questions that I have posted now. I am not concerned about being able to switch to different units. I just want to be able to use the same unit for different applications. As far as the Montana goes..I was able to get this unit with Delta Skymiles for free. So for me, it is take a decent GPS for free or spend several hundred dollars on a fancier unit. For riding in North America, is there any other mapping program or map collection that would be better than this one here? And as far as the mount I mentioned in my other question, the one you recommended seemed a bit bulky and cumbersome. That is why I was looking for somethign a little lower profile to fit down between the handle bar clamps on the R1200GS. I do not use a tank bag, so there is no visual obstruction. Thanks for your help.

Bill

As Jordan mentioned, yes you can load the DVD to a microSD/SD card as that is what the DVD is intended for.

For street navigation within North America, no, the City Navigator DVD is the best option available and we would not recommend anything else - it should serve your needs just fine.

The only mounts that would recommend for motorcycle use are RAM Mounts which will be suitable for your needs and robust enough to withstand abuse on a motorcycle. If you have a 1 inch handlebar that you can mount to, please see the link below for our recommended handlebar mount for the eTrex 20.
