Have a Nuvi50LM. It only has US. I need Canada. If I purchase this, I have to disable the internal US map? Is that correct? Seems inconvenient when you are traveling between the 2. Also, if I purchase the download from Garmin, say the US & CA map is it updatable via my lifetime contract, or is the only thing you can update for lifetime the preloaded map? Basically, I want CA and I want to be able to update it if I have to pay that much. So, do I just need to purchase a new Nuvi 50LM with the maps I need or can I achieve the same thing at a lesser cost with download/microSD update? Please break down my options for me.

The card will not disable the USA mapping. Maps that come on DVD or preloaded can be updated using the lifetime map update card. Because your unit only came with the USA you can only update the USA with the lifetime subscription that came with it. The best option would be to buy a unit with Lifetime maps included and with both the USA and Canada on it. I recommend the newer units for they will not have map update issues.

We have a sale on the nuvi 1490LMT but you will need a blank memory card in order to hold both the USA and Canada after updating. Another option is the nuvi 2360LMT.
