Kenwood/Garmin Nav Systems Map Updates?

Garmin City Navigator USA/Canada NT updates are usually available in summer of the year before the model year of the update (2010 update was available in summer 2009). While the Kenwood updates are usually slightly later (e.g. Aug/Sept) it has never been this late before. The 2011 update should have been available 4-5 months ago.

I would like to get the 2011 Kenwood update. I would also like to know if this unit will no longer be supported. It's a Kenwood DNX7100, only three years old.

Hello Carl,

Garmin still supports kenwood but the update year is always behind by a year compared to the other Garmin products. You can only get 2010 right now. This summer you will be able to get a 2011 update.

You shipped me the 2010 update on January 20, 2010. I did not have to wait until summer last year. That's why I asked if Garmin's support for this product is changing. If it's the same every year, I should be able to buy the 2011 update right now.

The problem with Kenwood and Garmin updates is Garmin relies on Kenwood to proceed with updates. It solely lies on Kenwood to have Garmin proceed with them, if this is dependent on a contract they have or something else, we do not know. We can only wait for Garmin to release any Kenwood updates as they are released whenever they are available. It is possible Garmin will not making a Kenwood 2011 update, but will make 2012.

When and if Garmin does announce a new update we will have it available.
