Hi there, I'm trying to upload GPX data into the Mapsource North America v.6 program but is taking a very long time (12 hrs and conuting), and has not even loaded yet, why is this so?

Howdy Mapworld!
Here are some suggestios and questions.

1. What GPS do you plan on loading the points onto? If it is a vehicle navigator then it will probably be better to load the GPX file using POI Loader.
2. What does the GPX file contain? Points, tracks, routes ...
3. How large is the file?
4. How did you generate it? There may be a unknown field or corrupt data in the file.
5. Have you updated mapsource? If not you may want to try that. Also Garmin Now has a better program for managing your GPS data called BaseCamp.

Here is a linkto BaseCamp and POILoader downloads.

1. I'm planning to load the information into an SD card so no GPS in specific.
2.It contains points tha have names attached to them. ie: one point would have Randy Johnson
3.The file size is 1,395 KB
4. I exported the file from Global Mapper and exported as a GPX file
5.I'm currently using the City Select North America v6.

I don't think Mapsourse will transfer the points to a Card just maps. Points go into the internal GPS memory. POI Loader should though. POI Loader creates a GPI file that can go on the memory card.
Another issue may be the file format from global mapper. I would export a GPX file from Mapsource to see how they label their headings(fields) then make sure the Globalmapper software GPX file looks the same. For example one make call the name of a waypoint "" and the other may call it "<name>".<br> I find it better to work with CSV or TAB separated text files. You just need to make sure you data is in the correct order. I find GPX files bloated and they tend to be less forgiving.<br> <br> *** What format is the coordinate system in? Make sure it is HDD.DDDDDD Make sure the lat/long is NOT separated into minutes and seconds. Just decimal format.<br> <br> Cheers<br> Jordan</td></tr> <tr><td align="right" style="padding-top:2px;"><br> </td></tr> </table> </td> </tr> <tr align="center" valign="middle" bgcolor="#eeeeee"> <td><b>Mapworld</b><br>Calgary</td> <td align="left"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="6" align="center"> <tr><td style="border-bottom:1px solid #ccc"><span style="color:#888;font-size:90%"><i>Reply #4 on Jan 20, 2010, 6:45pm</i></span></td></tr> <tr><td style="padding-top:7px;padding-bottom:0px;">One thing I haven't mentioned is that after the gpx data loads, I remove the unknown point feature from each point in Mapsource, resave as GPX, and then bring into Mapwell.
