I purchased MapSource Topographic Canada DVD with BaseCamp (010-10469-00) and performed the install. However, I don't know how to get into MAPSOURCE. I can see the tutorial for MAPSOURCE, but I don't see MAPSOURCE itself anywhere. I can get into BASECAMP.

Hello Doug,

you can not use Garmin topo canada v4 maps with mapsource. The maps come with basecamp for data management and MapInstall for loading the maps onto your GPS unit.

Cheers

Recently I acquired an Oregon 450, Topo Canada and a 4-G DaneElec MicroSD HC from your store.
I used Mapinstall to install slighly less than 4-G of the Topo to the 450. The transfer via USB is slow. After transferring about 25% of the data, the program said it needed 4 more hours for the remaining transfer. I aborted the program and browsed the 450 to find that
(a) Garmin Oregon (850-MB built-in memory) as a drive – 881-MB used and 19.1-MB free total 90.1-MB and
(b) 4-G MicroSD card – 1.03-G used and 2.64-G free
The Topo data resided in both the internal memory and the data card.
I wish to re-do a transfer of smaller Topo data, please advise:
(a) How do I remove all Topo data from the memory and card?
(b) How do I transfer the Topo data to the card only?
(c) Any priority for transferring the Topo data to the internal memory and card?

Oregon 450 can only support upto 4-G MicroSD. I note that to transfer all the Canada Topo DVD data to a card it needs more than 4-G.

Sale personnel said the Canada Topo DVD and pre-programmed card are the same in content and coverage. In that case is the data in the Canada Topo pre-programmed card stored in a special format in order to accommodate all the data.

Hello Li,

The Garmin pre-programmed cards only contain a small area in Canada. for example you will get Sask, AB, abd BC on one card. We recommend always buying the DVD because you get the whole country and you can do data management on the PC/MAC via Garmin Basecamp.

Also only load the maps you need with a buffer. If you don't go to the Yukon don't load it. You can always add it in the future.

Li you can remove the data from the card by formatting it or just sending a new map. the new map will delete the old one. To transfer data to the card only make sure you choose the card when running map install or use an external memory card programmer.

I hope this was some help.

Cheers
