I recently purchased a nuvi3790LMT and I would like more detail for "off road" driving, i.e. campsites, forestry roads, etc, which the preloaded maps do not, especially here in Canada. I am considering TOPO Canada, but I am concerned that my nuvi cannot view all data in the database, as it is not designed for off pavement travel use. What are the limitations, if any?

Bob,

The topo maps will load and view fine on the 3790LMT.

However, there are limitations using any Nuvi for off-road, outdoor style navigation. The 3790 (or any automotive unit for that matter) does not support tracks like handhelds and the unit is not compatible with Garmin connect as of today. If you are looking for a unit to collect tracks the handhelds are what you want. The Oregon 450 a great choice.

You might also have a problem doing routing with topo maps on automotive units as they might not route properly for you.

To sum it all up, while the maps will load on the unit and you can view them, to take full advantage of them and I would strongly recommend purchasing a handheld unit solely for this purpose. If the Oregon 450 is too high of a price at this time, the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx is also a great unit at a super low price at this time.

I hope this information helps, let me know if you have anymore questions.

Jordan
