Hello Trevor,

The Topo would be the better choice because it has more information outside of the city. City Navigator will have a lot of secondary roads also but may be lacking in some areas.

so if you calculate a long route the 2 products might take different roads? I was trying to figure out the difference myself also. as far as i could see topo has everything navigator has plus contours. all street details, poi's and stores' info/details are there, routable. for the few dollars difference, i don't know why anybody would get city navigator except for the fact that topo is divided into 2 products for canada and the US where city navigator is all of north america.

Hello Dave,

You can not look up address's in Topo and the map data is not kept up to date so the roads will not improve until another version comes out. based on previous releases they come out every five years or more. If you own a handheld you should get Topo. We do not recommend using handhelds as vehicle navigators because you can get a full driving unit with maps for about the same as the cost of the software by itself.

Cheers

I'm planning on buying a 76Csx from you to mount on a dual sport motorcycle which I will be using to ride from the city to the country to ride on dirt and gravel roads and forest trails. So do I understand that the Topo would be better than Navigator for this even though I won't be able to enter a location and get turn by turn directions to it (which makes getting to the trails a little trickier)?

You will be able to auto-route using Topo. The back country info is what you want in Topo. City Navigator has little or no backcountry info. City navigator is for paved roads. Topo has both but no address lookup. But it will route to locations
