I've got a Oregon 550T and may want to purchase the 24 K mapping for it,Would I be better off to get the Micro SD or the CD? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Hello Steven!
The best way to buy the mapping is on DVD. There are alot of good reasons. First lets talk about the SD card. On SD card the maps can only be viewed on your GPS unit. You can NOT transfer the maps to another SD card for backup, just incase you misplace the card or it gets corrupted.
On DVD the maps are on your computer for your use. You can plan trips on your PC/MAC and transfer it to the GPS unit. You can also take your GPS data collected in the field and view it on your PC/MAC. The maps can be transferred to a microSD card and if that card goes missing you can just program another. MicroSD cards are very affordable.

Generally the preprogrammed microSD cards are for people without access to a compatible computer. We have tutorial videos on our site on how to use the different features of the DVD software. I hope this was some help.

Cheers
