With regard to whether all versions of Android will work -- if you read the known issues page at DeLorme, you can infer that it needs Android 2.3.

Hard to say. I have 3.1 and the program crashes on my device.

Maybe it is not a Android 2.3 issue, but rather phone specific because when i bought an Android 2.3 phone, it will not pair - "There was a problem pairing because the PIN is incorrect". I would like to know if ANY one has successfully paired the inReach, and if so, what phone works.

Here is what worked for me:
1. Tap Settings
2. Tap Wireless and Networks
3. Tap Bluetooth settings
4. Tap Scan for Devices
5. Set InReach for BT mode
6. When InReach shows up under Bluetooth devices, tap and then hold entry until menu appears
7. Tap Pair
8. Message appears that InReach is paired by not connected
9. Start Earthmate. Lower right message will turn from InReach unavailable to Connected to Inreach

It is best to contact Delorme direct for assistance with connecting your Android to the inReach product. They will know all the little issues. Please phone them for email normally takes a long time to solve a problem.
Here is a link to their support for pairing.

Extra step to connect EArthmate. Please see my 9 step procedure above. Then,if BT reports InReach is paired but not connected, and Earthmate says InREach not connected:
Add step 10: Shut off the Android phone and power it up again, while the Earthmate is in normal"on" mode.
