Is this the paddlewheel with the speed and temp sensor that will work with the Elite 5m gps unit

Lowrance does not list this part as compatible with the chartplotter only version of the Elite series. Elite 5m.

what part do I need then for the paddle wheel temp as the unit has a port on the back to plug one in

As far as I know you can not do that with the elite 5M for it is a chartplotter only. Lowrance does not list the unit as capable or compatible with accessories that will allow reading the paddle wheel or water speed.

Are you sure you have the Elite 5m and not another version of the model?

The unit says right on it Elite 5m gold Package it has a optional paddlewheel and speed/temp sensor port on the back of the unit and the manual says it is a optional accessory

The Lowrance site does not list it as a compatible part. The manual is for all units in the series. Some features in the manual may not work with your specific model. I will dig a little deeper. I have a few emails in with Lowrance asking them for clarification.

Still no email response from Lowrance. The tech on the phone could not say yes or no the cable is compatible.

That's incredible and they sell all this stuff and they don't know if
