Can you set a preferred route with this GPS?

Yes, using the trip planner you can create a custom route for the device

Jordan I don't only mean from stop to stop but can you dictate the highways, streets to take. As truckers we sometimes get the route directions from planning and it would be ideal to be able to input that route into the GPS exactly. Is this possible too?

That is correct you will use the Trip Planner to do that. You will want to put in multiple points to make the unit follow the roads you want. You will need to play around with the feature to learn how to make it take the roads you want. If it goes down a road you don't want to, simply place a via point on the road you want to take and the unit should go that way. From time to time you may run into a map error that makes it take a different road. Please let us know if you are having difficulties with the feature.
