Do you need the LCD backpack?

If I don't get the LCD backpack, how do I aim it, or see what I shot?

Would I have to wait until I got to my computer before I could tell if I got the shot I wanted?

The LCD backpack will display what is being recorded but is not entirely necessary for aiming the shot.
Aiming it in the general direction will usually work due to the wide angle lens.
It is a good idea to playback some test shots through a computer or tv monitor to get a feel for the camera positioning.

The new camera will also have a wi-fi backpack that will become available sometime early next year. It will let you look at your shot and remotely control the record or stop buttons using an Iphone. You will also be able to stream to the internet using your Iphone. It requires an app that will be available through GOPRO. I don't think they have a list price yet on the WI-FI backpack yet.

Of note, I believe it will also be compatible with the previous model Hero HD 1080 as it accepts backpacks. The 960 will not be compatible.
