interested in this unit but was wondering if there was a way to mount this on a headband - ie without having to go to goggles or a helmet

Hello John,

The Goggle mount attaches to the band of the goggles. So it should work with a head band. The headband would need to be tight to prevent it from slipping down because of the extra weight.

Check out www.hatcam.com, you can get a baseball cap with a 1/4 20 camera mount on the brim. Works very well and makes it a true point of view camera mounting system.
