Thank you! Do you happen to know if it will work with National Geographic Topo software? I have asked them the same question but no response yet.

By the information I can find online the National Geographic software can import and export data from a Hanheld GPS but can not be used for moving map. So the GPS 18X will not work with it. You will need a hiking GPS, then you will be able to send waypoints and routes to it using NGT software.

In the Manual Chapter 8 refers to what you can do with a GPS and NGT software.

National Geographic has many Topo options so I could be reading the manual of the wrong one. You may want to specify which package you have.

I would recommend a Etrex 30 or Montana 650 if you need a Handheld to transfer route and waypoint data to for hiking.
