I have the Xgrip for my phone with the 6" metal arm and the larger suction base with the diamond ball mount. I was wondering if this base will hold the entire weight of the mount with phone without tipping over. I was thinking of not putting the suction on the windshield anymore so I can just put up a sun shield during the day easily instead of having to remove the suction mount from the window and remounting it when I get back in the car.

What suction cup do you have? Ram has a few options. The one with the metal RAM-b-238 on it will not properly fit the friction base. You would need the smaller suction cup. RAP-B-224-2 for the best fit.

How you position the Xgrip will also effect the balance of the setup. I would recommend the smaller arm for the friction base. RAM-B-201-A It will be better for keeping the center of gravity closer to the center of the friction base. I do not think the long arm will work well.

How this holds on the dash will also be determined by your dash and driving habits. Another option would be a dash disk. It sticks to the dash so if you have a slanted dash and drive aggressively you will not need to worry about it falling off as much. You suction the suction cup you have to it.
