1. I was closed to deciding on a Garmin 1490 LMT, but I am concerned about all this talk over the lack of memory issues. All I want is a reliable unit that handles US and Canada.  I'm a traveling salesman and I could use something that is no hassle.  I have heard GPS-City has very good service.  Please advise.
2. What does this update card do? Is it additional memory? I don't know why I would consider this over the basic 1490LMT...
Please answer in language I can understand.

The extra lifetime map card is for a second Garmin GPS device with North American mapping.

You can use an external 4Gb memory card to load all of North America on the unit. The card simply installs in the side of the unit. If you do not want to worry about installing the maps to a memory card, I suggest the nuvi 2595LMT as a very good option.

I have had TWO Garmin 1490 gps's. The first was a 'one update only.' My present is a 1490LMT with traffic cable and I love it. The 5 inch screen is very nice. I have traveled to the USA numerous time and the maps are great. The traffic feature works well when I travel east through Toronto and Montreal.
