I am using the Garmin owned navigation application NAVIGON, on a iPhone 4s. I have noticed that when I check the GPS accuracy on this application, it shows 5m when NOT using the GLO and 10m when using the GLO. Why the less accuracy??

Is there an application out there that will tell you what the GLO is actually doing? Like how many and where and number of satellites the GLO is using?

Thanks

The position accuracy can be due to the position of the device and how long it has been on. I have noticed down to around 2 meters accuracy.

I do not have a recommended software for seeing the satellites it is tracking. I suggest trying some free apps in the app store. Just search GPS Status.

Thanks,

I have checked and there are so far .... No applications out there.

I am wondering if the GLO is all that helpful for iPhone's. Maybe it improves iPad's because they don't have GPS built into them unless you get the cell phone capable ones. But as far as I can tell, no real improvement for iPhone 4s.

We are using the GLO with Intermec Data Collectors and notice that there is some form of static navigation enabled. It will only give you a position while you are moving.
Quite often we have to wave the unit wildly around, to mimic movement, to get a fix while stationary

I assume because waiving it around wakes it up that it may have a accelerometer in it to save power. If you think that is a feature that should be disabled please contact Garmin to pass on your idea

We used to be able to disable static navigation on the Sirf3 Bluetooth GPS, with a software program on the PDA.
I did contact Garmin but was told that no program existed to disable this feature.

Jordan,

You mentioned that you've seen accuracy of 2 m? I've had 2 different GLO's on 10-15 minutes at a time and have not seen it go below 10m. In fact, for the various tests I've done, it's always been logged at 10m. I've paired them to a variety of different iPads and have ended up with the same result.

Can you comment? What was the setup to get to 2m?

Thanks.

When I did my tests I did not do anything special. Just hooked it up to my Xoom Android tablet and let it track and it got close to 2m. It should consistently get 3m with good satellite geometry.

I have done some reading and it seems like most external GPS devices hooked up to a iPad will only show 10m accuracy even if it is better. It is something to do with the iOS according other manufacturers like Bad Elf. I am unsure if Apple is skewing the data to make it less accurate or just outputting that it is 10m to play on the safe side. It still may be 3m but only displaying 10m.

I think you were the fellow in our office the other day returning the product. I grabbed the device you returned and paired it up with my Xoom and guess what. The accuracy in my office was reading 3.3 meters. I think it is the operation of iOS but can not be sure. I will have to get my hands on a iPad to try too.

I have an ipad 2 wifi only and get absolutely none of the benefit of the GLOs advertised accuracy. If I turn WIFI off, even if my GLO is connected and paired successfully and has the green LED glowing indicating a satellite lock, any GPS aware app I have cannot read the signal. If WIFI is on, i get 65m accuracy horiz. with or without the GLO paired to my iPAD. It appears to me that I've wasted 99 bucks, but if anyone has a tool that accesses the GLO positions on an iPAD I would love to hear about it!

There has been an issue with location based services in the iOS software. It is a problem with the most recent update. iOS 6. You have to reset the location service to get it to work. Still it will be limited to 10m
