How to transfer routes to the Zumo 350?

Garmin Zumo 350LM

Original question asked on Nov 4, 2012, 7:25pm
When I transfer a route from basecamp to my Zumo 350 internal storage,it appear as being transferred as long as I'm connected to basecamp.
I can see it when I select the Zumo Internal storage.
When I disconnect the GPS the route dissapears.
I cannot access it from the GPS (Only routes that I create with the unit appear in the the route planner app) and when I reconnect to basecamp it is not in the internal storage anymore.

Any idea why?

That feature is not supported in the Zumo 350. You will not be able to load routes from your computer to the unit. You will need a zumo 665.

This strange...
On their site they show a page with full of pictures of the 350 and list all kinds of feature including basecamp (Even though the small print says that not all features are included in every device.)
They even include in the box a paper telling you that you can download basecamp to use with the preloaded maps on your device.
(Although they don't mention any specific model If it's in the box and mentions "Your device" one can assume that it's the one in the same box...?)

If this function is not included with the zumo 350
it looks like false or misleading advertising.
One of the reason I bought this unit was because of that feature.

On the box it says: "trip planning with basecamp"

Not all vehicle units will support that feature. Preplanned routes is more common with hiking units.

Unfortunately the nuvi 2360 does not support the use routes created on a computer then sent to the unit.

Thanks Jordan.
Would you be able to provide 2 or 3 (not too complex/expensive) options that can support this feature (Create routes in BaseCamp and then transfer them to device ?)
Thanks...and by the way an adventurouse 2013
Santiago. Greetings from Colombia

What is your main use?

For paved road navigation the nuvi 2595LMT, nuvi 3590LMT and zumo 660(665) are good options. Because you were interested in the zumo 350 I would suggest the zumo 660 or 665.

If you need a unit that can be used for hiking or backcountry use then the Montana 650 is great. Maps and accessories for the Montana series will need to be purchased separately.

All of the above products are available from GPS City

Thanks again for your prompt reply

My main prupose is to be dual use on motorcycle/car
Not interested in a waterproof-expensive-unit, but rather something affordable, with trackable routes...but definetively that I can import/export routes created with my device and Basecamp (both directions).

Not into hiking

Will check your options 2595/3590. If you can propose something below $250 that will be great

Cheers

I create routes in Base Camp and send them to "internal storage" in my Zumo 350LM. To see them in the Zumo you have to disconnect from the PC, turn off Zumo, and then start it. The trips display in "Apps" and then "Trip Planner".

Be aware if your trip has over 29 "Via" points, the Zumo will edit your trip into individual 30 Via point trips and assign each segment a number. Example: If you have a 300 point trip, the Zumo will change it to 10 trips numbering 1 through 10 and using your original trip name.

I hope this makes sense.

I am confused by different replies to the original question.
Reply #1 "Jordan" states "That feature is not supported in the Zumo 350. You will not be able to load routes from your computer to the unit. You will need a zumo 665."

Reply #9 "Elindio42" states "I create routes in Base Camp and send them to "internal storage" in my Zumo 350LM. To see them in the Zumo you have to disconnect from the PC, turn off Zumo, and then start it. The trips display in "Apps" and then "Trip Planner".

It seems to me that this Zumo 350 should accept routes from Base camp based on Garmin's website. It shows basecamp as software to be used with the 350 using trip planner.
Is there something I am missing Jordan? Have you actually used the 350 and found it not to accept routes from Basecamp? I want to buy the 350 but not if it does not accept routes from Basecamp.
Please advise.

Like many things about Garmin, they want to force you to do things their way. For example, they try to force you to use the inferior Basecamp when Microsoft Windows Streets & Trips 2013 is much better. But, there is a trick to being able to transfer your maps from your computer to your Garmin (ex., Zumo 350LM). Here's what you do: On the main page, click the volume button. On the volume page, push and hold the upper right part of the screen for 10 seconds. You will go into a special Garmin menu. Scroll down to MTP settings, click on the button, and change the setting to "Mass Storage". Save it and you are now good to go. Try finding that little trick on the Garmin website!
