Hello,

I am new to this equipment and want to order a Topo Canada map set.

I believe that I will receive the maps on a DVD with the Base Camp program but not sure how the other information is provided. Does it come on a micro SD card or do I need to buy one and transfer the information from the CD on my computer to the SD card?

Do I need a micro/ mini SD card adaptor, too?

Thanks for your help.

Andy.

The maps do come on micoSD card. However when possible it is best to buy Garmin topo maps on DVD and load your own card.

We also have a superior product made by Backroads map books. I recommend getting this map on microSD instead of DVD because their DVD is locked to one unit. The Garmin maps are not locked. The backroads contain a lot more information.

Thanks Jordan,
Do the Backroads maps ever go on sale? These are a little costly almost as much as the GPS!

Hello Jordan,
I have installed the Backroads map and now also the Garmin Bluemaps g2, in microSD, as well. At the time of installation, I was asked if I wanted to install them on the Backroads miroSD (It was then inside of my GPS whch was still connected to my desktop.) but not being sure that this was a good idea, I declined. This did however seem like a good, so after the initial installation, I tried to put both maps sets onto a spare, large capacity microSD but I got a maps locked message. So, I have two questions: Can the handheld manage two maps sets installed on a single SD? And, is it still possible for this operation to be done on my GPS?

Thank you,
Andy.

The Garmin Bluecharts and Backroads maps on SD card are both locked to the card and can not be moved off the card to another. You will need to run both cards.

If you have Backroads on DVD you can load it to the internal memory and use the card slot for Bluecharts. DO NOT install maps to a preprogrammed card for it will most likely erase the maps and you will lose them for good. I recommend the microSD version of Backroads for the DVD is locked to a single unit. the card can be moved from unit to unit.

It sounds like you have the microSD card for Backroads. When you put it in your GPS unit it was asking to install the POI DB into the internal memory so you can search it through 'Where to?' under extras I think. Not sure without seeing the prompts. That is fine to do.
