I find the detail of this GPS not to be quite bad. i.e.: angular lakes miss aligned roads and no names of rivers etc. I had a 10 year old Lawrance airman 1000 that has better information on it than this. I had to add it via an SD card but the information is there.

I talked to Garmin and 1 person said topo can be added and the other said it can't. I need to know who is right and will send the unit back if more detail cant be added.

The Garmin Aera 796 will work with Garmin topo maps. I would be careful using them when flying because you may not get terrain avoidance.
